Potential Uses of Process Waste Heat

The "free" waste heat produced by the vitrification process has many potential uses in a variety of fields. The potential uses must be evaluated in detail to see which can best be utilized. Some of the possible, and often unusual,  applications in different areas are listed below.

In Agriculture

The AJT plant could be the energy provider for a related farm based operation  in its local area. Different areas of the country could have different "agricultural packages" depending on the community need. Waste heat from AJT plant would generate steam, produce electricity and hot water to be used in the various agricultural operations. This "free energy" would allow cheaper production of various agricultural products. If desired, there would also be the energy to process the products locally for little extra energy cost. Some possibilities are as follows:

To heat green houses producing vegetables, flowers, other plants.

To protect plants from freezing and assist crops in fields or orchards or pastures. Ground could be heated by pipes below ground, above ground radiators and fans.

To heat poultry houses and barns or other facilities for farm animals.

To heat fish ponds for aquaculture of all sorts.

To supply heat for methane generation in recycling animal manure in pig, chicken, cattle farms.

To supply heat for the distillation of grain crops into alcohol for fuel purposes.

To supply heat and refrigeration for full dairy production and support - processing including pasteurization, cooling, bottling, etc.

For  Industrial Processes

To supply heat for waste oil recycling.

To supply heat for asphalt shingle recycling in order to recover the asphalt.

To supply heat for  food processing plants. Could provide both hot and cold water.

To supply heat for distilling operations for cleaning up contaminated water such as industrial in-process water, ponds, or contaminated ground water.

Could produce  ice or refrigeration by using the absorption process.

Could  produce large vacuums by the condensation of steam.

Business

Could be a source for providing heat and air conditioning to homes, schools and businesses, medical complexes, sports arenas and stadiums.

 Municipal Operations

Supply heat for sterilizing waste at sewage treatment plants.

Supply heat for ice/snow buildup prevention and removal on roads and sidewalks for northern sites. Would circulate "free" heated water through pipes buried in sidewalks or roads.

Supply heat for recreation sites - heated pools, play fields, ice skating rinks, etc.

Large quantity of "free" waste heat would allow for winter golf courses -heated greens - in ground pipes, above ground radiators and fans, no snow.

Large quantity of "free" waste heat would allow enhancing of  water supply by distilling - for areas with "hard" ground water.

Power Generation

Produce electricity from steam generated, use in process and sell back into the electrical system.

Environmental Clean-Up Operations

The "free" waste heat can also be used to assist with the effort to clean-up contaminated areas in the vicinity of the AJT plant. Examples of this are as follows:

Provide steam to be used for injecting into the ground to assist in the movement and recovery of petroleum products threatening the groundwater.

Provide heat to  operations that can clean up contaminated water by the distillation process.
